Sustainable Quarterly Mag

One Step at a Time

I chose to use vibrant colors and a rounded, geometric sans serif to feel modern yet fun when speaking about the topic. A primary focus of the project was different tactility and materiality as an experience for the user. As a result, it emits feelings of positivity toward change rather than the immense dread many feel when thinking about the future of the environment.

My sustainable magazine is an informative way to teach readers about the benefits of walkable cities and increased public transportation. In the US, the opportunities to live in a city like this are low but still possible, which is important for both personal and environment health.

The Bag

Tactility & User Experience

The Cover

The goal of the packaging is to serve not only as a trendy, tactile carrying experience, but also as a reusable piece of art that could be integrated into one’s life. The crocheted bag serves as a hands-free, convenient method of transporting the magazine to coincide with a walk-friendly lifestyle. However, it can later be used as a purse or fruit bag, de-influencing the trend of single-use plastic packaging.

The pattern was specifically chosen for the 3-D flowers and raised joining of the granny squares. In tandem, the cover paper’s embossment was chosen to pair well with the packaging’s pattern. It was also spray painted to better match the color scheme. Once again, tactility was a high priority, enhanced by the title and subtitles cut out of cold-pressed paper to add dimension.

Paired App

In conjunction with the physical print, I created a paired app to promote the magazine as well. While the bag aided usability for carrying the magazine around, the app helps by creating a fun tracker game for college students to decrease their carbon footprint.
